Viper Self-Defense is owned and operated by Dwayne Fortes.  Dwayne has dedicated his Law Enforcement career to teaching lifesaving skills as it relates to Defensive Tactics and Firearms Training. Dwayne is a United States Marine Corps Veteran (Infantry Division) who has 30+ years of combined military & law enforcement experience in self-defense and has received certifications in:

• Force Science Institute (The Analysis of Use-Of-Force Incidents)
• Forensic Video Analysis (Interpreting Video Evidence)
• State Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor-Trainer
• State Certified Firearms Instructor
• Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) Level 1 & Level II Jiu-Jitsu Instructor
• Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)

Dwayne has an extensive Hybrid Fighting System background in which he has competed and won division titles at North American Grappling Association (NAGA) tournaments, as well as a North American Pankration and Grappling Association (NAPAGA) tournament.
 

Between 2017 / 2018, Dwayne received both Level I and Level II Instructor Certifications in Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) which is an internationally recognized curriculum for Law Enforcement De-Escalation / Self-Defense Training program.  

Dwayne has also trained Specialized Military Units in Self-Defense. 

In 2012 Dwayne had prepared a training program ("Ground Defense") specific for Law Enforcement.  Over the years Dwayne continued to evolve the "Ground Defense" program into "Ground Control & De-escalation Tactics - Managing People in Crisis on the Ground." 

In March 2022 "Ground Control & De-escalation Tactics" was accepted, adopted, and is now a recognized curriculum for Law Enforcement Officers in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
