Safety is paramount

Why I do not instruct during the winter months

For safety reasons I DO NOT schedule classes December through Mid-March.

New England weather is unpredictable, BUT what is predictable is the potential for unsafe conditions due to sub-zero temperatures, ice, sleet, snow and/or rain is not worth the risk of compromising safety.

Therefore, any person who has purchased and/or received a Viper Self-Defense Gift Certificate is seeking to schedule private lessons will be scheduled between the months of April and November

About my course

Private "LIVE FIRE" Lesson(s)

Face it, the last time you attended a "basic" firearms safety class was months and or years ago.

When is the last time you shot YOUR firearm while moving? Kneeling? Behind cover and learned the different variations of approaches based upon the setting? When is the last time you practiced clearing a malfunction under "controlled stress?"   When have you performed "timed drills" to get your heart rate up, and build upon speed and accuracy related to target identification (shoot versus "don't shoot") without compromising safety?

Fact is.... most of the basic practical skills you learned have diminished.  Shooting at paper targets while standing still is not realistic for self-defense training.  Most (if not all) ranges do not allow individuals (except Law Enforcement / Military personnel) to conduct self-defense training, and for many good reasons.  The training I offer is safe empowering and builds upon lifesaving skills.

It's crucial you take time to learn more about YOU and your firearm(s).

Come Learn What Works; What doesn't & why

Training Options

We will begin with the basics and safely progress as your confidence through practiced repetitions becomes comfortable to you, and the safe handling with your firearm is of no concern to me to progress with enhancing your skill set.

Here are some training disciplines to get us started (not in any specific order). Despite your skill set (Beginner, Novice, Advanced, or Expert) we will discuss what your goals are, and together we will meet your objectives.

  • How to properly field strip your firearm to clean it and re-assemble it.
  • How to identify the best conceal carry methods that best fits your needs.
  • How to deploy your firearm from your preferred method of carry to a tactical "stream-line" presentation of a perceived threat.
  • How to apply basic marksmanship skills & self-analyze your shot placements, and make the adjustments needed to meet your satisfaction.
  • How to perfect the "Point Shoot Method."
  • How to tactically and efficiently conduct magazine changes.
  • How to identify malfunctions and effectively clear those malfunctions.
  • Learn the difference between "cover" & "concealment" and best practices to effectively shoot from a position of cover.
  • How to "shoot on the move" without abandoning safety principles and sacrificing accuracy (where your rounds go).
  • How to retain your firearm when grabbed by an attacker and then evaluate shoot / don't shoot encounters consistent with the law.
  • Perform safe/fun shoot & move drills that will enhance your marksmanship skills

Viper SD Challenge Coin

History of The Challenge Coin

The origin of challenge coins goes back all the way to the Roman Empire, which rewarded soldiers for their achievements with special coins. “Portrait medals” during the Renaissance commonly were minted to commemorate specific events, typically involving royalty.

One of the most commonly held beliefs has modern-day challenge coins gaining popularity from a single unit during World War I.

The story goes that a wealthy lieutenant had given medallions to members of his unit. One young pilot placed his medallion in a leather pouch he wore around his neck. He was later shot down and made it back as far as the French lines, where the French originally thought him to be a saboteur. However, one of his captors recognized the squadron insignia on his medallion and it saved the pilot’s life.

It quickly became tradition that all members of the squadron carry their medallion at all times. The men would test each other to fulfill that edict by challenging to see the other’s medallion. If the challenged soldier could not produce his medallion, he was required to buy a drink for the challenger.

Outside of the military, challenge coins have become increasingly popular team-building pieces, collectors’ item, and/or memorabilia for an achievement at a specific event.

Dwayne Fortes {Viper Self-Defense Firearms Training} awards only those individuals who take his course with a one of kind “Viper Self-Defense Challenge Coin” by rising to his marksmanship challenge and applying precision skills.   You only get ONE TRY from 25 yards away with a semi-automatic handgun to hit a designated steel target 2.5” (wide) x 2.5” (tall).

Another way to earn a Viper Self-Defense Challenge Coin is taking a private firearms lesson.  Once you get "warmed up," you may attempt a safe, fun timed shooting drill with your handgun (NO LASERS OR RED DOT) or any long rifle (NO LASERS OR RED DOT - Iron Sights ONLY),

I look forward to putting a “Viper Coin” in the hands of those up to the challenge.

Oh' ....and for those who just miiiisssed  earning a Viper Self-Defense Challenge Coin, or collect Challenge Coins, .....it can be purchased for $5.00
